On 16-22 November, the World Health Organization (WHO) will organise the first World Antibiotic Awareness Week with the slogan “Antibiotics: Handle with Care”.
For this year’s European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD), organisations are encouraged to share video pledges on the work that they are doing to tackle antibiotic resistance. These short videos should be shared on social media channels using the hashtag #EAAD on 18 November.
Carbapenems are a major last-line class of antibiotics to treat bacterial infections. The spread of carbapenem-resistant infections is a threat to healthcare and patient safety in Europe as it seriously curtails the ability to cure infections.
Antimicrobial resistance is the ability of a microorganism (e.g., a bacterium, a virus) to resist the action of an antimicrobial agent. The major cause of antimicrobial resistance remains the use of antimicrobials in human medicine.
