Today, the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) is meeting together with its Member States, non-governmental organisations, civil society, and representatives from the private sector and academia.

The primary objective of the meeting is to call for further regional, national and international political commitment to address the challenges posed by antimicrobial resistance, as well actions to increase and improve awareness about the issue. The meeting takes place at the UN Headquarters in New York.

This high-level meeting also aims to highlight the importance of governments and inter-governmental organisations, such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), in responding to this global health threat, together with stakeholders from several sectors of society such as human and veterinary medicine, agriculture, finance, environment and consumers, striving for a One Health approach.
