Dutch EU Presidency: Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)

news

On 9-10 February 2016, the Netherlands as part of its 2016 EU Presidency, is hosting a Ministerial Conference on Antibiotic Resistance, in Amsterdam.

The goal of the conference is to create common policies to combat antibiotic resistance at a national, European and global level, emphasising the need for a ‘One Health’ approach in the areas of health, environment, agriculture and livestock. As a result, the Ministers of Health and Ministers of Agriculture of all EU/EEA Member States have been invited to attend.

There is currently an EU action Plan regarding AMR and in 2016, the World Health Assembly adopted a Global Action Plan on AMR in which the World Health Organization (WHO) encourages all Member States to implement a national action plan within two years.

The Ministerial Conference on AMR will build upon these, setting out to discuss the progress that has been made so far and actions for the future using a ‘One Health’ approach.
