Beat the Bugs course

news

e-Bug, in collaboration with the Kingfisher Treasure Seekers community group, has developed a 6-week community hygiene and self-care course called “Beat the Bugs”, to help tackle inappropriate antibiotic use within the community.

The course aims to increase awareness and change behaviour around hygiene, self-care and antibiotic use. It is designed to be delivered by community workers including school nurses and family practitioners to a range of groups, including hard-to-reach adults or younger audiences like girl scouts. The course includes six sessions: an introduction to microbes, hand and respiratory hygiene, food hygiene, oral hygiene, antibiotics, and a final session on self-care and action planning for the future.

In addition, e-Bug developed a Beat the Bugs ‘Train-the-Trainer’ workshop for community leaders to learn about the Beat the Bugs course and provide them with the knowledge, confidence and skills to deliver the course in their community groups. The training workshop is suitable for teachers, school nurses, scout leaders, family practitioners, and community support workers, etc.Training dates and approved trainers are listed on the Beat the Bugs webpage.

Furthermore, an online training to teach educators and community leaders about e-Bug is also available. The training module is approved by the Royal Society of Biology and upon completion of the training and evaluation survey a certificate with three Continuing Professional Development points is awarded.
